FLIPPING: AN EPIPHANY
A 13 minute video with incidental music by Wagner, FLIPPING: AN EPIPHANY documents, at first, a stack of photographs destined for use as collage material on a series of canvases and here layed out like a book. Slowly, however, the music -- which happens to be on the radio faintly in the background -- seems to ask that the camera keep rolling, that the photographs keep turning and, after a train comes through, that they start to be rearranged, reoriented, joined into larger frames. What begins as a simple task takes on a life of its own as a serendipitous metaphor not only for an artist's ability to "listen" to his materials, but also for art to speak for itself (this statement notwithstanding). Appropriately, at the end, the audience applauds.
