Photo Diptychs / Stories (1991-92)

These photo diptychs from 1991-92 continue out of the earlier series of multi-frame Panoramas, and, like those, are at times based on my cross-country truck-driving job from 1982-87 as an art-shipper (see MileMarker). But the prints here become unique drawings in two ways: first, through the black areas surrounding the images that give film and frame information, varying from print to print and incorporating photogram-like manipulation; second, through the stories that are either handwritten in spot-tone or, at times, jammed through a word-processor. Looking back, their document-like quality make them clear precursors of my 2002 painting series and the Photo Canvases. Each piece here measures 16"x20" and is constructed of four separate 8x10's then taped together like a map. Click on each image for a larger version with text.
