Jack Balas, 1991; CAST OFF THE LIFEBOATS, oil/ canvas, 30"x38"

TEXT: "By now it was only a sound, that line where the tide surged onto the beach. As she made her way down the dunes the last glow of the city behind her disappeared. Unsure when the water would move to swallow her, she inched into the black void. Miles out a lighthouse swept the horizon. 'Cast off the lifeboats,' she said, and a giant swell lifted her from her feet as the first wave began."
